My little man's car came in third place in the pine wood derby! He was incredibly proud, and only a little sad that it wasn't first place. We are already planning his car for next year. Wait, I'll stop lying here. One of the other dad's and I are already planning his next car. Scheming ways to make them faster, slicker, and all around better. Heavier use of graphite, new saws for rounder corners, more time for sanding and painting. Maybe even an airbrush to avoid brush strokes.
I am obsessed. I'll get over it though, now that Blue and Gold banquet is crashing to the forefront. Leave it to my little man to volunteer our little family to run the show. We are going with the "Chinese New Year" theme and my fingers are already dented from hours of cutting out decorations!
And now, onto our climbing addiction:
I am now certified to belay, and we got off the auto-belay walls on Monday. At first it was just little D. - little miss could only lift herself onto the first set of holds. Little D wouldn't get off the walls! After 3 hours of climbing, fingers raw, he still begged to go a little more. He'll start the junior team Saturday - believe me he's counting down the days!
Another mom was at the gym, and we traded off belaying for one another. What a rush, they definitely save the best walls for those not using the auto-belay! I was sore as hell last night, but lay in bed dreaming of better footwork, faster climbs, and better bouldering.
Now I cannot wait for it to get warm, head into the Shenandoah for some outdoor walls!

When I lived in Maryland, the Gym we went to there had trips to various places in the Shenandoah. I wanted to go, but I failed to make the best of the opportunities I had. Maybe this year? We'll see.

Ah, usually it's our kids who determine which opportunities we'll take hold of! So, we'll see if I can squeeze a fun trip for me this summer - or if I'll have to play the trip out in my mind :)
